Build it and they will come

The other day I as watching my golden boys playing at the dining room table with their Lego and I marveled at how long Lego has been around. It is such a fantastic toy and really hasn’t changed much in 50 years. Sure they have added stuff but the foundation of the little brightly colored blocks remains the same. My boys (and I) have had many hours of fun building, tearing down and building again. Every time one of their friends comes over the Lego inevitably gets pulled out.

As a side note one of the things I love about being a Dad is the fact that I get to buy toys for my kids that I to get to play with. They have Nerf guns, remote controlled cars, spy gear, board games, video games, action figures, etc. I mean how cool is it to go to the store, see something you really like and rationalize buying it because “it’s for your kids!” LOL I love my life and I love my boys!

They have built more delux things but the following just cracked me up!

The gypsy decided it was long overdue

Up again, out again, off again, gone

It has been awhile since I wrote so I thought I would take another stab at this. The holidays are over and everything is beginning to return to normal. Or maybe as normal as it ever gets around my household. All things considered I guess I am just happy that we can “look” normal to the outside world. LOL

So lately I have been getting the bug to travel and, naturally, since I don’t have the money to go to places like Monte Carlo – (yeah, like THAT’S ever going to happen!) – I am probably going to go to Los Angeles and visit my mom and take my golden boys to the beach. Now when I travel I am all about the journey. To me the journey is the destination. I like the trip not the end. I want to explore. I want to stop in strange places and eat in little mom and pop diners. I want to explore new things. I also want to document the entire thing. I am a photographer at heart but I also think I may have been a photojournalist in a past life – or maybe a future life and this is a preview?! – who knows – What I DO know is that I love that kind of thing. I am fanatical about it at this point in my life. When I go to take pictures I take a LOT! The other day the kids got a new boomerang and we went to their school field to test it out. We were at the school playing with it for maybe an hour and I shot over 150 pictures.

Now usually, when I travel, I take pretty basic “snapshots” and the occasional nice portrait or “fine art” shot. THIS TIME however I plan to document everything. I am going to FILL a journal with this single trip. I will photograph a cup of tea I order, the sandwich I ate, where I pumped gas and which pump I used. The hats the kids wore, the slurpee they bought and the empty bag of potato chips they munched. I am hoping that I will have enough to fill an entire blank book with the one trip. The only part I am not sure of is how to write in the journal and still leave room for the pictures. I wish I could print them as I take them. It might be nice if polaroids were still… hang on… Okay, I just googled it and they DO STILL EXIST – COOL!!! Problem is they are $100 dollars and the film is $1 PER picture. OUCH. Back to dreaming. Actually I could simply bring a portable color printer and print them at the hotel or wherever. Hmmmmm. I will ponder that. I will probably just write in the journal but either leave blanks or only write on every other page so I can insert pictures later. That is probably the SANEST idea… Clearly not the most FUN idea but definitely the sanest…. Still not sure which option to choose…?

Of course I will also paste in stickers, receipts, business cards, clippings from brochures, etc. Just go hog wild. Okay, I know you are probably thinking “back away slowly from the crazy man…” but I really do think this will be fun… What do you mean “fun for WHO?” Oh HA HA, I get it, you think I am going to drive everyone crazy don’t you? Okay, you may be right but I never let a silly thing like SANITY ever stop me in the past and I am not about to start now!
